zoom zoom

oh my... its been awhile.  i have been working diligently on editing wedding photos... organizing my social media pages... my website... etc... etc... etc... oh yeah and trying to enjoy the fact that its summer :)

mark and i managed to slip away to one of our most favorite summer spots... zoombezi bay here in columbus, ohio.  i had to take a much needed personal day away from work and from home and get out into the sunshine.  we had some drinks, we soaked in the lazy river, we went on the newest slides, we had some more drinks... and basked the day away.  it was marvelous!! cant wait to do it again...
im thinking maybe again for my birthday?!?

whats been your favorite things this summer??

its all happening.

i have disappeared for awhile... but i'm back and here is why :)

as you know... (because i told you here and here)  that it has been a struggle to find the resources, confidence and opportunity to dig back into my photography business...  but so far so good :)  we just recently - july 2, 2011 - had our first official wedding as "Brittany Davis Photography" again.  mark helped assist me and we are one amazing team!!

the event was held at the dayton racquet club in downtown dayton, ohio over the 4th of july weekend.  it was a late afternoon... turned early evening ceremony and reception on the top floor of the tallest building in downtown. breathtaking!!  we were there from start to finish and didn't miss a beat!  we were surrounded by windows and off in the distance in every direction you could see fireworks as well as the dayton dragons playing a baseball game below :)  it was truly spectacular!!

(these are some of our creative edits)

it was a beautiful day & night and i cant wait till the next one ;)  we have 3 more officially booked weddings and are hoping for
much much more to come!!!
check out the full albums here and here.

family is forever. (please lend a helping hand)

as i have mentioned in previous posts... i still struggle quite a bit being so far from family and friends.  yesterday was a joyous occasion to get some much needed family time :) it was a really special day for me. i had a client meeting in dayton and had let friends and family know that i would be in town in hopes to gather for a bit on a sunday afternoon and thank goodness it worked out.  after my appointment...(which went very well and we booked another wedding for sept) i headed over to my sister and brother in laws place for fun in the sun by the pool, drinks and a wonderful cookout!  AT LAST!!!

i got to see my momma, sister, brother in law and my cousin and her family... plus the added bonus of seeing both of my "nephews." (eric & cartman)  even though eric is my nephew by marriage and cartman is a silly lil pekinese... i love them both dearly!!  it meant a lot that eric came out.  i had sent him a message early in the day to let him know i would be around and i was more than thrilled to see him :)

even in the pool we cant let them go :)

 mr. cartman!
 my momma!

its been a tough year for eric and family and we are so very proud of him!  you see... eric was shot while driving home from a show on thanksgiving night in dayton and we were told it would be a long road to recover... if he could ever fully recover.  it broke my heart and soul.  he has come so far since that night and im so proud to be his "aunt".  after all he is the closest i have ever come to being a real "aunt" LOL!

we are both hippies at heart and i love him dearly.  you can read more on my sister's blog.  my sister and brother in law promised eric that if he could walk by christmas this year that they would spend it in hawaii and i desperately want to see this happen.  as you will see from my sisters blog we are asking anyone and everyone to please donate $1 to help us get him to hawaii because his progress is amazing and he deserves it!!  it was great seeing him get into the water! ( gotta love the lifejacket diapers ).

it just may be my most favorite day of summer this year!

belated independence.

mark and i always find a way to have fun and make our time together special.  this year we had the pleasure of both being off work for the 4th of july but had nothing planned at all.

we photographed our first official wedding together on the 2nd in dayton and both worked on the 3rd so we decided to take it easy for the 4th.  i spent most of the day editing photos and relaxing but towards the evening we both felt stir crazy, ready for a cookout and something to set on fire :)
so we went krogering...

(sometimes he is just absolutely the cutest! and yes that is a grrr face.)

it was a really lovely day spent at home with our babies.  we tried to make it as festive as possible and made a great memory!  i hope everyone had a wonderful independence day!

here's the story.

happy july!

its been a busy few weeks filled with all kinds of excitements and stress :)
i've missed you blogger.
i ended last month with a new camera :) and i started this month with all kinds of fabulous things to photograph with it!

my sweet friend kaitlin and i got together for another impromptu photo session and it turned out incredible!

my vision was flowing wavy hair and hippie dresses and this is a sample of what we got.  to see the entire session please check here.

it was a really lovely evening and i was hoping to catch beautiful light as the sun was setting.  these locations are only about a mile down the road from our place.  we pass a wheat field and farmers market on one side and wide open fields of wild flowers and abandoned land on the other.  i just had to use both sides of the road it was perfect!

disclaimer: (mom don't read past this point or i'll get a lecture LOL)
i saw an abandoned house set way back off the road and decided to park in the driveway for a few while we utilized the sunset coming across the field.  we got some really fantastic shots and headed back to the car.  my original plan was to back right up into the street and head home.  i had no plans of driving up near the house. (i mean come on i knew the house looked creepy!)  however,  as we were walking back to my car a columbus police car pulls in behind me to see what we were doing.  when i turned around with my camera still around my neck the female officer leaned out of the passenger window and asked if i was just out taking photos.  when i said we were using the sunset and field of flowers she smiled and looked over at her male counterpart who seemed relieved. i told them we were done and about to leave hoping that they would just drive off.  instead they told us why they stopped to check on us and it sent chills all over.  then it got awkward too.

the officers explained that this home had been raided a while back and discovered to be a meth house and the location of a recent homicide... so they are required to check on anything that happens there.  then they instructed us to pull up the drive way because there was a turn around near the house!!! omg.  we circled the driveway and i noticed that the cop car was flashing its lights at us now. what the heck?! so i stopped to look back and saw them both get out and walk towards us.  they asked if we would settle an argument for them... if we thought the daisies in the field were yellow or orange. weird!!  then they continued to talk about the homicide that took place in the house!!  it was described to us like the living room and chairs of the texas chainsaw massacre. freaky!!! and to top it all off they told us we could go inside and take pictures if we wanted too.  oh my lord i was so freaked out!  it was one of the most odd and creepy things i could imagine.  right before we hopped in the car the male officer looked at us and said "you just cant trust anyone, there are so many crazies."  i wanted to run for my life LOL!

the chances we take for beauty :) and i need to get some mace.

peace & love~
