rock on the range 2011.

this month has been a whirlwind like any other... however,  the month of may had a wonderful and generous surprise!

i was "face-booking it up"(as mark and i would call it) one night last week and a very nice photographer from cincinnati that i see every year at x-fest had messaged me.

we chatted about the columbus music festival - rock on the range.
i said that i just couldn't justify the price it took to get into such a festival and only wanted to watch a few of the many bands.  its sad when such a huge festival comes to my neck of the woods and i cant afford to go... and even if you do go, you get inside and pay tons of money just to eat and drink. its outrageous!!
anyways :)  he told me he was no longer attending rotr because there were way to many complications due to national press attending the show this year. (i believe thats because a perfect circle played)  he said his radio station had some extra weekend passes. and offered me a set.  i graciously accepted the tickets and instantly my soul was happy :)  i live for live shows.  and weekend passes to a great show: EKKKK!!!!!!

and so the weekend began...

friday:  we had tickets to go down for the pre-party for the 5th anniversary of rotr.  but... i was a party pooper and worked all day and afternoon, so we decided to stick closer to home.  we headed out to the movie theatre instead, it was an incredible night ;)

saturday:
thats one happy girl ;)

we headed downtown early to drive around the city and enjoy the beautiful day off together.  we stopped off at patrick j's on high street for a little rum and appetizers to hold us over at the show.
saturday night's bands:
there was really only one...
korn.

video coming soon.

sunday:

again on sunday, we headed downtown with our hearts filled and our minds racing!
all day we had heard there was a major chance of storms and hoped so much that it would let up enough for us to see the headlining band : a perfect circle.

we both worked on sunday but had the motivation of the show that evening to get us through!!

i have seen apc twice before but not since the early 2000's... yeah thats about 10 years ago. ugh.  and i was sooo very exited to see them again outdoors.

they did not disappoint.

sunday night's bands:
puddle of mud
disturbed
a perfect circle

video coming soon :)

i feel incredibly blessed and thankful for the amazing opportunity to attend. thank you.

movie night.

its not very often that we go out to a movie... with Netflix controlling our every moment , why would we? It's so easy to get sucked into our own couch and cozy living room that we seldom justify the price it costs to go to the theatre now a days.

While discussing our weekend plans we discovered it had been quite some time since we've gone to a movie and the new pirates of the carribean was due out. Who can resist a movie date night with my love, rum & coke, and a drunken jack sparrow? Plus, with all the rain clouding our days lately I could go for a tropical escape.

We had a festive tropical treat before our showtime and soaked up the sun on our favorite local patio :) while enjoying the early eve and loosening up from the brutal week, we planned and laughed about the rest of the weekend.
after some live patio entertainment we headed over to the theatre, taking our chances on not pre-ordering our tickets on a friday night-
we decided that whatever happened happened :)

well obviously you cant expect to see an 8:15 showing of the new pirates of the caribbean on an opening friday night without having purchased the tickets earlier that day... so our back up plan was Thor.
i absolutely adore all the character of old movie theaters.
while in line for the tickets we watched the sign change to sold-out- so it was time for plan b.

the end.

a sweet spot.

we drive down winchester pike all the time. for years we have passed and neglected to stop at this cute little farm market.  i'm not sure if its just the eager month of may or what... but we finally stopped.  we were both eager to get out of the house and spend time walking and dining and living outdoors again.  were very eager for summer, and the end of the rain...  so we finally stopped and are so pleased with what we've found.

now that its past may 15th... its safe to plant!

cutest little place ever, packed full of sweets and goodies, all homemade.

it was a sweet new discovery.

where would we be without mothers?

md 2011 :)

it was a really special day for both of us.
mothers day was spent wandering around the franklin park conservatory on a beautiful sunday afternoon with both of our mothers there :)

we had planned to take our mommas to the conservatory for blooms & butterflies on mothers day, which would be the first time they've met.  mark and i have been together almost two years and thought it would be lovely for our families to meet.  considering my family is about an hour and a half west and his family is 2+ hours north... it was not easy.

however, it did happen and was such a wonderful day.  it was a full house and i felt surrounded by love and beauty.  both of our moms and dads, plus my aunt and grandmother came out for the event :)
my heart is still full.

my beautiful momma.

don't step back!

so vibrant and alive.

so cute.

mark in that same spot last year.

ew spider plant.

happy mothers day ladies.

dusty & rusty & beauitful.

with winter gone and a rainy spring among us, i have had very few opportunities to dust off my camera and head outdoors for photo therapy. i've been quite guilty of using my iphone or my canon power shot to snap photos and have fallen away from my DSLR out of shear laziness. but last week i felt like i didn't go anywhere without it :) it was magical.

i had the pleasure of meeting a dear friend whom i used to work with.  we had been discussing a small photo shoot for weeks and the weather & our schedules never fell in line at the same time.

finally one evening after work, the rain stopped and with a few texts & good timing, it lead us to an impromptu photo session at a nearby barn.  ms. Kaitlin rose is amazing to work with and so laid back and wonderful.  it was great catching up and capturing her in a beautiful post rain sunset.

Kaitlin - see more on my flickr

we plan to do several more sessions with different themes and locations.  it should be great. this shoot was just what i needed and i cant wait for the next!! i have lots of fun things on my calendar!
please stay tuned!

the 5th of may

last week was quite a busy week and i think we are still catching up from it all....

this year we had our second annual cinco de mayo celebration at our favorite local mexican restaurant : senor patron

it was completely filled with happy people enjoying authentic music, meals and drinks till their hearts were content.  it was a gorgeous day outside and the margaritas were the perfect match!  the evening was so full of sunshine and color...

and we even hung out with the most interesting man in the world.
what a lovely evening with my love.
